Performance Team

Elizabeth Hoover, director of the Ventura Youth Choir, has been singing choral music since she was a young child.  She has performed in school, community, and professional choirs, and currently sings with the vocal ensemble Arete.  She is also a soloist and section leader during the High Holy Days with B'nai B'rith temple in Santa Barbara.  She received her Bachelor’s degree with a minor in vocal studies at UCSB, where she performed with the UCSB Collegiate Chorale and three other University ensembles. Ms. Hoover is currently a full-time elementary school teacher, and created the Ventura Youth Choir (formerly the "Mound School Choir") which she has directed for 15 years.  Her singers range in age from 8-13.
Jonathan Teichert began accompanying the Ventura Youth Choir in 2015.  He works as a full time musician, playing organ and piano for Santa Clara Church in Oxnard and Sacred Heart Church in Ventura.  Jonathan also teaches piano at Ojai Valley School, as well as giving private lessons in his students' homes around Ventura County.  Jonathan loves spending time outdoors and is an avid listener of audiobooks in his spare time.

Audry Giles, choir assistant for VYC, has been a part of VYC for almost 10 years, starting as a singer at the age of 8.  She studies music theory and plays various instruments, including piano, ukulele, and guitar. She loves working with the kids and helping them in their musical journey.
Joel Levitz, Treble 2 section leader, is a proud VYC father and barbershop singer.  He has sung with International Champions (2 gold medals with the Masters of Harmony), coached contemporary a cappella groups (including multiple-ICCA champions USC SoCal VoCals), toured Italy with the CSU Stanislaus choir, and generally been a part of many things that make him sound considerably cooler than he really is.  He currently sings with Modern Nostalgia Barbershop Quartet, is a singer / section leader with Pacific Sound Men's Chorus, and is honored to work with the Ventura Youth Choir.
Alana Sheeren, our VYC "Choir Mom" and choreographer,  is a former professional actress and dancer who has choreographed and directed both youth and adult theater. She holds a BFA in Theater and an MA in clinical and community psychology. She is currently producing and directing her first documentary film. Alana loves working with the talented children in the Ventura Youth Choir.
